Last Monday I started the USANA RESET programme to release around 5 kgs. Keeping on top of weight gain seems to be number one on wellness goals for many women and men.
Come spring, every wellness website is expounding the virtues of their amazing product and programmes. In a sense I have joined these wellness people with my programme!
The question is why do we put weight on in in the beginning. Right through my childhood until after the birth of my second child, I was slim. The weight gain never went away after my third child. It may have been hormonal, hence way I have embarked on a course with Wendy Sweet looking at peri-menopausal and menopausal weight gain.
Low Glycaemic foods is one of Wendy’s recommendations, hence why I have embarked on my 5 day RESET programme that helps to reset the insulin in the body.
Monday: Day 1. I started with a positive attitude and put on my new Fitbit to measure my steps. Weighed myself and yes at least 2 kgs had crept on over winter. I decided to have a Lemon Tang drink, made from whole lemons with ginger and turmeric. This is meant to wake up the liver. The rest of the day was made up of three shakes and a couple of healthy Low GI snacks. I had trialled out the recipes with my 2 year old grand daughter!
Tuesday: Day 2 Feeling good
Wednesday: Day 3 Feeling positive and keen to get in at least 6000 steps. Shakes make life easy and not having to think too much about food. I'm aware Day 3 can sometimes create grumpy feelings...I did have a few then got back into positive mode.
Thursday: Day 4 Still feeling good and desire for other food is getting less, which is a little strange for me. The RESET is working!
Now becoming more aware of foods in the pantry for Saturday when I need to start creating low GI meals. I do have a few spare shakes for the 'just in case' moments.
Friday: Day 5 I will be fine!
Weigh in Monday
Spring is here and its time to put the hot oats away. This morning I started the day with a glass of Lemon Tang followed by a Low Glycaemic USANA Chocolate Shake. The shakes can have water added or a combination of water and milk or an alternative milk product. I rather like half water and half Coconut Milk or Almond Milk. There is already 15 grams of protein in the shake derived from whey and soy protein. Another option is to add half a banana, pre-soaked chia seeds, sunflower seeds and linseeds and almonds plus berries.
There are 3 flavours to choose from, Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate.

How are you going getting spring into your step towards feeling and looking great?
A few days ago, I had one of those spontaneous moments. Driving along I glanced into a paddock and spotted a few lambs having loads of fun, jumping on some newly felled logs, nudging each other and generally frolicking around. They didn’t have a care in the world and were simply in the moment.
As I drove off my feeling of lightness and excitement stayed with me and opened a gateway to contemplate: how do humans get a spring in their step? For some it might be buying spring and summer clothes, others it could be hopping on the scales and seeing the numbers going down, clothes feeling loose around the hips, having dinner with old friends, a glass of wine, seeing a sunset.
