How can we maintain or create a state of Wellness as we move into the 40+ age bracket?
Fortunately Wellness is not the absence of disease; in fact it is not dependent on our physical wellbeing. This may come as a surprise as we often see the word ‘Wellness’ in many publications especially about health and fitness.
The first prerequisite of wellness is our ability to have free choice and to take responsibility for our health and wellbeing. Typically, I went out for dinner last night, ate far too much and felt my body struggling to digest the lovely meal. I chose what went on my plate, how much I ate and what stayed on the plate. Did I need dessert…no, did I have dessert, yes!
When assessing our state of wellness, we look at ourselves holistically. This includes our breathing patterns. Do we use the time at the lights thinking about our next meeting or taking time to do deep breathing that will support our immune system and keeps our stress levels down.
How effectively are we communicating with our partners, our children, our work colleagues? Are we blaming or are we in learning mode and listening with the intent to listen and understand where the other person is coming from.
